Alexandre Estrela (1971-) is a Portuguese artist who founded the non-profit space Oporto in 2007 in his Lisbon studio. Ana Baliza (1985-), graphic designer and editor, joined him in 2012. The architecture of this space with its very particular history and aesthetic has become, in a few years, one of the most precise and precious programs ever seen. Until 2021, Oporto programmed “sessions” of experimental film screenings, always on a single evening, around a single piece, and accompanied each time by the production of a poster and a text skilfully written by four hands. In 2023, they reopened in the same city under a new name, Faro, “far from O,” in a cinema that shares a wall with the Santa Isabel church. The conversation will look back at the particularities and history of Oporto and FarO, and, to quote Ana Baliza, how “this anti-job/job” enables them to redistribute their obsessions. In English.
