Andy Stillpass studied art history in the doctoral program at the University of Chicago, where as a Kress Fellow, he researched theories of humor in late 19th Century France.  Rather than pursuing an academic career, he worked at a family business from 1980- 2000. Throughout this time, he maintained a strong interest in art which he enthusiastically collects. Particularly influenced by John Dewey’s Art as Experience, he hoped to make art an active part of his daily life. To this end, beginning in 1987, he regularly invited artists to his residence in Cincinnati, Ohio to create works in situ. In addition, he has actively participated in a number of artistic projects in other cities. Andy Stillpass is trustee emeritus of the Cincinnati Art Museum and a trustee of Artists Space in New York. 

Zoe Stillpass is a curator and researcher at the Centre Pompidou-Metz, where she recently curated Borrowed Light Through METZ by Cerith Wyn Evans and co-curated Endless Sunday: Maurizio Cattelan & the Centre Pompidou Collection. 
In 2018, she earned her Ph.D. in the history and theory of art from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris, with a dissertation focused on non-anthropocentric art since the late 20th century. She taught Art History at Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, and at Ecole cantonale d’art de Lausanne until 2022. She regularly contributes art criticism to various journals and writes essays for exhibition catalogues.
